Felt Wools

Available Sole and uses according to features

The sole is the most important part of any shoe, as it directly affects comfort, durability, grip, and overall performance. Different types of soles are designed for different purposes, so understanding their features can help you choose the right footwear for your needs. In this blog, we explore the most commonly available shoe soles and their uses.

1. Hard Rubber Sole

  • Features: Durable, non-slip, water-resistant.

  • Uses: Ideal for both indoor and light outdoor use. Good for walking on smooth or slightly wet surfaces. Offers stability and protects the felt upper from wear.

  • Pros: Long-lasting, protects feet from cold floors.

  • Cons: Slightly heavier; less flexible than soft soles.

2. Soft Leather Sole

  • Features: Breathable, flexible, natural material.

  • Uses: Mainly indoor use; often in traditional or premium felt slippers. Provides a gentle grip on wooden or tile floors.

  • Pros: Comfortable, flexible, molds to foot over time.

  • Cons: Can wear out quickly if used outdoors; not water-resistant.

3. Felt Sole (All-Felt)

  • Features: Soft, lightweight, entirely made from felt.

  • Uses: Perfect for indoor lounging. Keeps feet warm, cozy, and quiet while walking. Popular in colder climates.

  • Pros: Ultra-comfortable, eco-friendly, insulating.

  • Cons: Wears faster on hard surfaces; slippery if floor is smooth.

4. EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate) Sole

  • Features: Lightweight, shock-absorbing, cushioned.

  • Uses: Great for indoor and light outdoor use, like short walks to the garden or porch.

  • Pros: Very comfortable, soft, reduces foot fatigue.

  • Cons: Can wear down quickly under rough outdoor conditions.

5. Cork Sole

  • Features: Natural, slightly rigid, with some flexibility.

  • Uses: Indoor slippers or casual outdoor use. Provides some arch support.

  • Pros: Breathable, eco-friendly, slightly supportive.

  • Cons: Less durable for heavy outdoor use; can crumble over time if wet.

PU Sole (Polyurethane)

  • Features: Synthetic, lightweight, flexible, durable, water-resistant. Can be textured for anti-slip grip.

  • Uses: Excellent for indoor and light-to-moderate outdoor use. Suitable for everyday walking, including slightly wet or uneven surfaces.

  • Pros: Durable, comfortable, holds shape well, often cheaper than leather or rubber soles. Can be molded into patterns for extra traction.

  • Cons: Less breathable than natural materials like leather or cork. Can feel stiffer initially.

What inspired you to start making felt slippers, and how did you turn that idea into reality?

The inspiration came from a desire to combine comfort, sustainability, and traditional craftsmanship. Felt slippers are warm, eco-friendly, and perfect for everyday use, yet they are often overlooked in modern footwear. Turning this idea into reality involved learning the art of felt-making, sourcing high-quality wool, and collaborating with skilled artisans. By focusing on durable, stylish, and comfortable designs, we were able to bring these slippers from a simple concept to a product people love to wear at home and gift to others.

What challenges did you face when starting the felt slipper business?

One of the main challenges was sourcing high-quality wool and ensuring consistency in each pair. Additionally, educating customers about the benefits of felt slippers over synthetic alternatives took time. Through persistence, testing, and strong partnerships with artisans, we were able to overcome these hurdles.
